ONE ROOM CHALLENGE Week VI - THE REVEAL

I’m absolutely delighted to share my One Room Challenge with you all! Many thanks to Linda for organizing this awesome adventure!

If you’ve been following along you know, in sum, the challenge for me was working with what we had. Starting out I was worried that the spaces (especially the great room) would not look transformed for this reason. Well the rooms look & feel completely revived – bright, cheerful, and already we enjoy spending time in them more than we could have imagined, it’s really night & day.

I think the before and afters tell the stories of the spaces, but as I was judicious in my choices I want to speak to how the few pieces really brought the rooms to life.

Great room before:

& After:

World Market Bleached White Rug – it defines the seating area & brings the beachy aesthetic I wanted to achieve

Loom Decor Ivory Linen Drapes – I never thought the space needed window treatments, these beautiful drapes make the room warm & inviting.

Paint, Valspar’s Soft Pelican gray. The beautiful shade immediately transformed the spaces from scary yellow to airy and gorgeous.

HotHouse Flowers / Betwixt / Bleecker / & Kelly Green Pillows – I did not want to reupholster the couch, these fabulous fabrics beautifully lighten up the heavy green chenille seat. Major thanks to Little Design Co for her gorgeous work in making the Schumacher Pillows!

Bookshelf – My friend Michelle suggestion to remove the doors to make the piece look lighter was spot on! I then hung the coral & fishes print in front, & I love the effect, especially as there is no wall space for art in the room.

Simple white linen slipcovers took the leather chairs from dated to timeless.

Bamboo Mirror & Pottery Barn Palms– I never knew what to do with the mantle; a huge mirror and fabulous faux palms finally feels like the perfect fit (the mirror also ties into the chairs in the breakfast nook).

Another before look:

And after:

Breakfast nook before:

BREAKFAST NOOK BEFORE:

Custom Seat covers in Lacefield Kelly linen & Bamboo Chairs (Craigslist) & – I love how the vibrant green compliments the great room & pops off the white chairs; the combo really achieves the Hollywood Regency/Palm beach look I was after.

Peony arrangementNDI completely captured my vision & I get to enjoy these fabulous fauxs year-round. I’ve already received so many compliments!

The console in the breakfast nook always alluded me, it was only in the photo shoot that Sarah & I agreed the styling should speak to the breakfast nook. I wanted a lamp there for ambient lighting at night and I think my gold brushstroke lamp speaks to the gold tones in the jute rug & chandelier.

So simple styling, done & done.
