Surf Inspired Teen Room Reveal

Our son Orion's room was in desperate need of a facelift. It had fallen into that state where he had outgrown his decor then random pieces were shifted from other spaces in the home as he needed and wanted (i.e. those fine but plain desks from the basement), lone hanging lantern again -- random.

I think the befores speak for themselves (can you spot the broken, yes broken, gum ball machine?):

Orion's a very relaxed, chill guy so coupled with his love of California I thought a sophisticated surf look would be a perfect fit. So last summer when he was away at camp Kurt & I went to town so he'd have a welcome sight and space to return to.

We painted his room (Benjamin Moore's Classic Gray), repurposed his duvet into a headboard, added in a new desk, & hung the killer surfboard I found on Krrb (it's like a more user friendly version of Craiglist, check it out if you haven't heard about it)! I was pretty pumped to use a chocolate Brushstroke lamp in his room, I think it reads as slightly edgy and masculine here.

Needless to say he was thrilled with how the space came together. I think it's so fun creating kids and teen's rooms for that reason, to see them so excited to have their own space designed to delight them really is a joy!
